Producer/Newscaster (PT)





The WFIU/WTIU News Bureau seeks a producer/newscaster to anchor newscasts during NPR’s flagship afternoon news program, All Things Considered.

This position includes working within local and network clock restrictions, preparing and reading the state and local news contained within the program, assessing the importance of any emergency information that needs to be aired live, checking wire services for additional local news material, updating newscasts with fresh reporting, and posting stories online throughout the afternoon and evening.

The newscaster performs this task in the main on-air studio of WFIU; the broadcast is aired live through the station’s Indiana signal network and streamed globally through the WFIU streaming service. This task requires independent decision-making, since the programs are live. It involves assessing national/international content and adjusting local news insert material accordingly. This task is performed to bring the flagship national radio broadcast to WFIU listeners and provide local news content inserts.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (or degree in progress) in journalism, media production, or a related field and one year of experience in a broadcast or journalism related field.

Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.

In-depth understanding of journalistic principles, particularly as they apply to public media. Hands-on experience in writing, reporting, editing, production and on-air delivery in radio and TV, and for the web. Experience working with multi-platform technologies and the ability to adapt material to a variety of platforms while adhering to AP style guidelines. Ability to function in a fast-paced 24/7/365 news environment.

Advertised Salary

$10.50 per hour.

Work Hours

This is a part-time position for approximately 25 hour per week and is not eligible for IU benefits. Hours are 2:00 – 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
