The bill is “read” to the entire chamber – this is a procedural step – the bills are typically moved forward in big groups together. The Speaker of the House assigns the bill to the committee for review.

There is a deadline for filing bills. Depending on the length of the session, it’s either Jan. 9 or Jan. 10.
