Our television and radio stations serve audiences across Indiana and beyond with engaging local programs, comprehensive broadcast services, and impactful education and outreach initiatives. IPBS member-stations are located in Bloomington, Elkhart, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Merrillville, Muncie, South Bend, Vincennes, and West Lafayette.

Position Overview:

Our IPBS member-stations are searching for a dynamic and visionary Director of Engineering and Technology. This pivotal leadership role involves working directly with contractors and vendors. This position reports to the General Manager and will contribute significantly to the strategic planning process of the organization. As the Director of Engineering and Technology, this position ensures the seamless operation of critical IT, audio, video, and file-based systems, which are essential for content creation, distribution, and transmission.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide technical management and oversight of systems that deliver content to local audiences.

Ensure the station adopts new technologies and equipment that assists in content creation and distribution.

Evaluate technical needs at the station and remote transmission sites.

Work with contractors and vendors to maintain and upgrade transmitters and translators, ensuring efficient 24/7 operation.

Plan and execute the transition to ATSC3.0 in coordination with the General Manager, commercial broadcasters, and other partners.

Manage engineering contracts and tower leases, ensuring compliance with Indiana Code.

Serve as a member of the leadership team, making presentations to the board and other stakeholders.

Act as a liaison with public television and radio stations in Indiana and nationwide on engineering-related matters.

Coordinate critical IT needs with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proven management skills, including staff supervision, evaluation, and budget management.

Experience with over-the-air broadcasting across both analogue and digital platforms as well as studio engineering.

Experience in technologies ranging from studio/remote camera systems, master control automation, and non-linear editing systems.

Experience with radio studio consoles, equipment, and audio production.

Experience with streaming technology and transmission site facilities.

Ability to communicate a vision and strategy for the technological future of public media as well as advocate for next generation needs.

Knowledge of and experience in public media broadcasting.

Familiarity with public television programming and mission.

Ability to initiate and guide collaborative efforts among IPBS stations and content partners.
