Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Assists the Production Manager, Engineer, Producer, or project owner of record in the daily execution of varying video production projects and deliverables by performing video recording of events, ceremonies, athletic competitions, and other activities.
  • Determines technical requirements and sets up equipment, as well as potentially coordinating and supervising the activities of support personnel.
  • Assists the Production Manager, Director of Media Productions, and/or project owner by serving as direct project coordinator on client, WTIU, and WFIU production projects including pre-production project organization, on-site execution, post-event delivery, and reconciliation.
  • Maintains video and audio equipment.
  • Organizes all supplies, equipment, and logistics for assigned events.
  • May produce and edit special programs; utilizes computer graphics and editing software to create features, animations, event coverage, etc.
  • Serves in assigned direct positions including Associate Production Manager, Multi-camera Engineer/Shader, Technical Director, Videographer, or Editor.
  • Other video assistant positions and duties as assigned.

General Responsibilities

  • Assembles and sets up cameras, audio and video equipment, and all other equipment needed for broadcast production both in studio and location; monitors and operates equipment during production; takes corrective action if problems develop.
  • Repairs broadcast equipment; troubleshoots problems using schematic; locates and procures any needed parts; installs part and tests repaired equipment; performs routine and corrective maintenance on equipment.
  • Inspects, services, and maintains all broadcast equipment including transmitters; ensures that all broadcast equipment is operating up to set standards.
  • Operates and maintains the Television Master Control; routes broadcast signals to campuses, up-link sites, and other destinations.
  • Operates, monitors, and adjusts transmitters in compliance with FCC regulations.
  • Operates and monitors satellite receivers; performs technical evaluations of signals.
  • Consults with other broadcasting and production staff to ascertain and configure technical and equipment needs for various productions.
  • Provides guidance to lower-level Broadcast Technicians.

EDUCATION

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 4 years of television broadcast experience

Preferred

  • Experience focused on broadcast or high-end instructional or industrial video production company, having experienced a fast-paced broadcast environment including exposure to live multi-camera setups remotely and in studio
  • Experience spent working in client-facing production and environments, with hands-on experience with video production equipment

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

  • Possesses a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University

Working Conditions / Demands

This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This role requires the ability to move large, heavy equipment cases, and the ability to remain stationary for long periods of time.

Advertised Salary

$40,000.08 – $44,304.00 annually based upon internal equity and experience.

Work Hours

Hours of this role vary with evening, weekend, and holiday work required dependent on event/production calendar.
