INDIANAPOLIS, IN (May 24, 2024) – Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations, Inc. (IPBS) is proud to announce that WTIU/WFIU, WFYI, and Indiana Public Broadcasting News (IPB News) have collectively been awarded nine prestigious Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards in recognition of their exceptional work in broadcast journalism. Region 7 comprises Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. These awards underscore the unwavering commitment of Indiana’s public media outlets to delivering high-quality, local reporting and innovative storytelling.
“With a growing number of people having lost confidence in mainstream journalism, it’s very rewarding for our news team at WTIU/WFIU to be honored with multiple Murrow awards. These awards symbolize journalistic integrity and dedication to bringing the public independent, fact-based journalism”, said Brad Kimmel, Executive Director of WTIU and WFIU.
WTIU/WFIU received several accolades for their outstanding investigative journalism, newscasts, podcasts, and in-depth reporting that highlight issues and stories within the Bloomington community and beyond. Their dedication to covering local events, community concerns, and cultural stories has not only informed but also connected the residents of Indiana.
WFYI was recognized for its exceptional news series on special education in Indiana. The station’s commitment to investigative journalism in Indiana, insightful analysis, and powerful storytelling continues to uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity and public service.

The IPB News statewide collaboration distinguished itself with an award for excellence in innovation for its 2023 Indiana legislative session bill tracker. IPB News’ innovative use of digital tools to engage audiences and make Indiana’s legislative work easier to follow and sets a new benchmark for public media. Its innovative approach ensures that important information is accessible to a wider audience in dynamic and impactful ways.
